Series 3 Timing chain

Hello all,
Quick question, been paying some attention to my block today as the engine is out having all manner of wonderful things done to it. Went to replace the timing chain, sadly with a Shitpart item and found it to be too short. Were there two different timing chain lengths or something? I removed the wear pad completely to give me a bit more slack and still couldn't get it to fit. Old one put back on and to be honest I might leave it. It's 1974/75 so a relatively early one, indicated 30k and I believe that to be genuine looking at the condition of the engine internals.

1974/5 is actually quite a late one, seeing as the engine was in production as a 2 litre diesel in 1956....  There are a variety of chains, relative to the tensioner type fitted, whether 3 or 5 bearing, and also the 2.5 petrol had a different set up. Did you buy the parts by chassis or engine number? Also, where chains are concerned, by the heaviest duty you can, rather than the cheapest.

Do make the effort to replace with a good quality chain to prevent future timing issues. These old diesel engines like to be timed up well to run at their best.
