Any idea what thickness the steel plate should be to repair me rusty swiss cheese of a chassis? 2mm? 2.5mm? 3mm?

I use 3 but it's thicker than the original. 2 would probably do.

Nit picking rivet counter time: in engineering terms anything less than 1/4" (6mm) in thickness is, 'sheet', 1/4" and above is, 'plate'.

I use 2 and 2.5 that I beg from a local commercial body repair shop. 2 is fine and thick enough for novice welders like me

I think the original was something like 14SWG, which is just a shade over 2mm. Replacement chassis from Richards are 2.5mm, not sure about others.

Marslands were 3mm when they did series chassis.
