The orange one is mine, I've the joyous task of grinding and cutting this weekend :) weather permitting mine should start to look like the green one this weekend.

Looking at the Jay's photo mine must have had quite an amount of corrosion to have been cut so far back, unless the previous repairer was mad?

or as you say, he was mad

probably one of the best pictures i've got of my bulkhead but there's an engine and stuff getting in the way

as you can see that flap of metal is supposed to be "under" the footwell

Glad the picture was usefull. Hope the rain stays off for you. Looking forward to a few pics of the job. Whoever repaired my bulkhead before was certainly mad, footwell rapair pannel was held in with silicone.

Welds with hardly any penetration sort of hold in mine, that and rust.

Today has been mostly spent fixing the Mini, but I have managed a little cutting and grinding.

Passenger side foot well gone.


More pigeon **** welding, which was surprisingly difficult to grind off and release the remains of the foot well.


I wasn't hoping it would be quite this rusty.


Peeling off some old foot well.


Hidden set screws.


A little gap to squeeze my new foot well into once I've cleaned it up some more.


Just a layer of old foot original foot well to remove from the centre section and the welder may come out tomorrow :smile1

Then I can tackle this hole.


Then onwards with the drivers side.

And whilst I was busy grinding and cutting some one deposited some sort of French record library on the drive I may risk aids and gay up the hybrid with its gay engine.

I dont like the way that big gay disgay is looking at your landy! Good progress with the footwell though. Plenty of rust there to keep you busy.

I hadn't noticed the offensive image in the rear :eek:

Mmm rust, may need to break out the spot blast gun tomorrow, I hope it won't be to damp for it.

You need to be carefull posting thing like that on here! Shot blasting is the way forward,i have to make do with the good old wire brush. I have been busy trying to fit my drivers footwell today. Needs a bit of fiddling.

Yep keep at it that does not look at all bad, I personally prefer the wire brush in the grinder unless It won't fit as it is quick and effective, I find with the grit blaster it works slowly but i just get grit EVERYWHERE :eek:

worth slapping some rust remover before you paint it, it gets all the little pits you cant see, the machine mart one is cheap and works well.

agree with the wire brush in grinder - its quick and clean  :smilewide:

also an extra 5 mins with the grinder sorts out the untidy welding  :haha:

I don't want to be doing this again (Not on this vehicle.) so I planning once the foot wells are in to send it for blasting or dip stripping and then for a warm bath in zinc.

Not wishing to be left out, more brake pressure was used to bend the bulkhead than work the brakes!!
