Swivels

Hello all,
Been doing a bit of poking around underneath my Landy today and noticed the swivel balls are looking a bit sad, seals have had it too. Anyone have any ideas where I can get decent replacements and ideally not the dreaded blue box shite? May try the local Landy specialists tomorrow and see what they can do.

As you evidently already know, avoid Shitpart like the plague. Someone on here fitted them and they rusted after about 10 minutes from what I remember. Another option is keep an eye on eBay, I've picked up a set off 88 axle ends and a complete 109 six pot front axle recently for sensible money just for the swivels.

Thanks Noel, that's a great help. I don't mind spending some of money to get the right stuff as I'd like it all to last. Unfortunately the gearbox on my car let go today so that's taken priority a bit sadly  :smiley-furious:

I was just about to order a full swivel kit from paddocks but having read this I am assuming they will be britpart,  :-? not sure what to do now, money is a bit tight so don't want to shell out on expensive genuine parts unless it is essential, there again I don't want to throw money away buying shite.  :-?

picking up a whole axle is far cheaper. Free if it's got FWHs on it cos you can flog em.

Having said that I picked up a perfect pair for a tenner at a jumble    >rock<

Been looking but I have only managed to land 1 good one, in that time I have bought 2 that are for a range rover classic and don't fit and 2 that are more pitted than i thought,  :haha: so i kind of decided to just but another good one, just don't want to be doing it again in a years time.

Keep your eye out on ebay... I have a set of swivels spare on the shelf in the garage (keeping them though). They are like new, and came on a complete axle from an 88". Springs, shocks and MAP free wheeling hubs included. £50 starting bid saw me quids in given the as-new swivels I now have in-stock, and the MAP hubs now adorn my 88" (though I could have cleaned them and shoved em on ebay for megaquids had I been so inclined)

I would think they are Shitpart or some other sub-standard shite. The last set I bought some years back came from thexmod so were military (genuine) spec, they're still good some 12 years later on the 109. It might be worth talking to some of the ex-military parts suppliers, you never know your luck. If it's in a box with a NSN chances are it'll be pukka.

I bought some off Paddocks about 2 months ago so watch this space, no issues yet though would hope not. Fitting gaiters may just help to keep them in decent condition though once the gaiters are on you don't see the harm going on inside  :confused:

Bought swivel kits off paddocks to change n/s and o/s and 2 years later no issues.......they went together nice as well to be honest.  :smilewide:

bugger need a pair for S1 pins etc and bearings and bushes axle seemed fine was quiet but opened to a can of worms one pin sleeved with copper tube and no money left on rebuild

I think OEM can mean they are Bearmach or Britpart etc still it is all a bit naughty really the manufacturer should be shown.

I did consider re chroming, BUT from what i have found the pits tend to be fairly deep, i think it is when the rust gets under the chrome it seems to rust out a little pocket, I did consider seeing if a mate could braze them? then I could smooth them off and get them chromed, but i decided it sounded like a lot of work for a bodge job,

yeah i heard have them brazed smooth them of then 3 stage hard  chromed copper or nickel then chrome not sure on the order was ages since i asked about it
