Old Leafsprung Land Rovers

Hi my 1975 series 3 diesel won't start, well that's not completely true, she starts and then after a few seconds she just dies. Feels like she is not getting fuel through. She has got fuel in the tank, checked visually ass the fuel gauge doesn't work ( a job for another day ), any one any ideas of where I am to start looking. While I am on, time has come to buy a workshop manual, can some one please recommend one to me.

check fuel filter on bulkhead and see if there is one in tank also
for the price of them (pence) its worth just changing them
