Old Leafsprung Land Rovers

After being stood for a couple of years I've been 'road testing' the series 3 whilst adjusting the engine timing. That's being going quite well, however during the road testing the gearbox has been whining and been steadily getting worse. In total I covered about 20 miles and thought it best to check if there was any oil present despite topping all the transmission fluid up prior to running it. Out of the filler hole oozed a caramel colored oil that was full of air bubbles. Bugger I thought so I drained it off and found a tooth (gear not one of mine) in with the crap that came out of the box. Obviously it needs sorting, but any ideas what caused the oil to go like this and can anyone identify what gear the tooth came off. The problem I've got is that I'm in the process of moving house so could really do without the grief of overhauling the box. So what I was thinking, is that if I replace the oil with fresh stuff would that enable me to get the Landy to my new house which is about 4 miles max so I can then overhaul the box there? What do you reckon? The oil I use is ep80/boingy GL4 spec and was changed not longed before it stood for 2 years.

It looks like water mixed with oil. If it has been in for the 2 years there will be som corrosion inside the bearings and gears.

My old gearbox whined for years, its replacment aint much better now, 4 miles, i'd risk it you aint got much to loose if you plan on overhauling it anyway, the money you save on a flatbed you can use to buy new top qwality bearings
