When I got my 109 i took about 30' of unneeded wire out of the dash most of it unfused live. Didn't get any smoke escape during my ownership but there was 1 section of wire welded to the speedo casing.
Reconnected the original loom and got back such niceties as dash lights, temp & fuel gauges.
I've since added a few relays, mini mcbs battery disconnect etc. just for piece of mind.
