Old Leafsprung Land Rovers

I am getting a 1972 series 3 88" ready to sell and have found a couple of unusual bits. I'm not sure if they are unique to early threes or if someone has just monged it about. What do you think?

The first is this fuel filter mounted to the chassis between the front fuel tank outrigger and bulkhead outrigger on the drivers side. At first I thought someone had just added it, but the bracket on the chassis looks factory?




The other thing is the bulkhead, it has a series three dash, screen hinges etc, but the centre section where the tunnel attaches looks like what I thought was 2A? It even has a bung where the hole for slave cylinder access is?



Could it be some sort of crossover thing, or is it just common to all early threes and I'm just boring for noticing it?

I will change it as judging by the layers of under seal/mud/rust/**** on it, I'd say it hasn't been changed in a while!

Dash has the early style heater vents too by the looks, so it certainly seems to add up.

Just looked again, but not on my phone..... It seems to be a water/sludge trap, not a filter!

The first SIII bulkhead was up until and including (at least part of) 1972 with two short gutters, series 2a style Inner Ventilator Panel with large bottom flanges, series 2a type internal stiffeners, and the inner vent to door pillars.

1973 had a unique bulkhead with a long gutter, series 2a style Inner ventilator panel with large bottom flanges and series 2/2a type internal stiffeners.

1974 - 1975 bulkheads had a long gutter, series 3 style inner ventilator panel, series 3 type internal stiffeners (the first time the latter two features were on the SIII bulkhead), inner vent to door pillars with exposed holes in internal faces of door pillars. UNF threads throughout.

1975 onwards had the same as 1974 - 1975 but now with a mix of UNF and metric threads.
