S3 Smokin like a B'trd
« on: 30 March 2013, 06:21:51 pm »
Right then 2.25 deisel smokin like a smokey thing, only been run and revved on the drive ,not run on the road as no test etc. After a good hour of running there is oil appearing on the manifold to down pipe joint, there is also a trace round the no1 (front) exhaust manifold to head joint so i'm presuming this could be where the problem is ,but what could cause this ? before i start stripping stuff it'd be good to get some ideas. If anyone with a nose for these motors has any spare time and lives near to Holmfirth would be even better as i could do with another eye casting over the hole truck as i want to get it through its test any help ..Beer,fags,tea and coffee Axailable!!!!
p.s as another point at idle it clears floor it it smokes bluey grey.

I fall into the living near Holmfirth category - top of Cinderhills Road. I also own landrovers that smoke exceedingly well.
Any history? Been laid up for a while? was it smoking before? how old? has it been rebuilt? and where are you?
Oh, and when you say run for an hour, it needs to rev lots, not tick over, other wise you don't achieve much

Possibly going to Skipton auto jumble tomorrow - not sure yet

Did you replace the valve stem seals - and if so, how long ago?

Might be able to bob over tomorrow afternoon perhaps

Are you sure that you got all the old injector seals out? I have seen a few motors with two or three in when the injector has been taken out.
