Someone may have fitted the longer bench seats in the rear, would have still thought it would be rated for carrying two on either side though, so four in the rear max regardless of how many can fit in.

My record in my SWB was 13, including me, my girlfriend of the time, my younger brother and 10 of his inebriated mates. We went to collect them after they got kicked our of a party by whoever it was' parents. This was about 40 years ago when I had an original softtop with no side windows! The biggest problem was keeping them quiet.

I did have six police hanging off the back of it on another occasion, but that is another story!

I seem to have sent myself on a tangent. Not suggesting I would squeeze nine into my SWB, just pointing out that the rear bench is the same width as the front which does seat 3.
Only over short distance, but I have traveled with three in the front. Cosy but it works.
So back on topic, sort of. My old 109 Caravanette had seating for, in theory, 8 or maybe 7 n half ! Again cosy.
But back then I was not asked about seats. More recently one insurer declined to quote when I said the 88 had seven seats.
I've forgotten the question !   :haha:

Bench seats for an 88” are only designed for two, so the maximum for an 88 would be seven (four rear three front).
There was at a time some bench seats fitted to the 109 Station Wagon that were longer and were designed to seat three per side, it was something to do with taxes and as ithad greater seating capacity so was classed as a bus and as such didn’t incur purchase tax. Therefore there was a time that the OTR price for a new 88 exceeded the cost of a new 109

I’ve never been asked about seats when insuring, but you’d be pushing it to get nine people in an 88”.
You’d be pushing it to get three in the front unless you had Warwick Davis sitting in the middle.😂

I have been wondering. Not always a good idea.   :-?
My 88 hardtop has rear bench seats which could in theory seat 3 each side, giving a total of nine.
The station wagon variant with similar seating is listed as a seven seater.
You with me so far ?
So I insure it as having 7 seats, but as they are benches could I just say 3 ? Two benches in the back, one in the front.
Unlikely to carry more than three and some insurers won't cover seven seats.

Aye, apart from the Mercury I can't recall any names. Some where big and some where small.
I do recall a small printers, I think they did Children's books and Jigsaws. It was in a small street and always outside was a Black Rover Vitesse.
I had a blue one, but always liked the look of that one.

Our wipes were grey rags, about a foot square, they came in clear plastic sacks tied at the top.
We bagged up the dirty ones for collection.
I think I had more clean rags in my garage than they had at work...😂😂😂

rags ! How very dare you ? Print wipes I wil have you know. 😁
Ha, yes they did come in handy. I delivered them in red bin bags and took the dirty away in red wheelie bins.
If the bin wasn't full I would scoop them out of other bins to fill them up and save moving to many bins.
Hence I would go home with ink up my arms and across my front, it just soaked through. 🙄😠
