Just out of curiosity, what happens if you used a gauge that required a voltage stabiliser without the stabiliser?  Oh, also would the voltage stabiliser out of an old MK1 Mini be a similar beastie to one used in a Land Rover....I have a thought forming in my mind involving a Smiths 52mm after market fuel gauge that I had in my Mini being transplanted into the Lightweight....

It reads high, at least a Smiths oil pressure gauge does. If you have gauges that don't need a reg and you run them through one they "pulse" for want of a better way of putting it, the needles constantly move up and down a few mm. In case you're wondering, I've got it wrong in both cases.  :banghead

Based on the responses, it seems I should be getting 12v at the changeover switch.

I'll put a direct 12v to the switch, and see what happens...

Hmmm...ta mucho, think I might give it a try sometime and see what's what, I've got all the stuff lying around...somewhere...so it's not like it's gonna cost owt to do which is always a bonus. If it works great, if not then back into the box of junk.
